Wheeling Park SADD Students Win at State Conference

WPHS SADD Receives Statewide Recognition

Wheeling Park High School students took the stage this past weekend to be recognized for their efforts in saving lives and empowering teens.

The Wheeling Park High School Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) organization and its members earned a pair of major awards on Nov. 12 at the group’s state conference in Kingwood, W.Va. Wheeling Park won the “Activity of the Year” award for its nationally-broadcast public service announcement. It was the second consecutive year that Wheeling Park SADD students have been recognized for “Activity of the Year.” The Wheeling Park chapter won the award on the national level last year.

Wheeling Park sophomore Isabella Gillespie earned individual recognition at the event. She won a “Superlative Award.” The award is given to the SADD member who most exemplifies SADD’s goals and mission.

Wheeling Park High School SADD advisor Sharon Jebbia said she is again proud of her students for their efforts and all of their accomplishments. She said her students are now raising money for the SADD national conference which will be held in June in Tampa, Fla.

“The conferences are a great opportunity for our students to meet and interact with other clubs from across West Virginia, and the students return to Wheeling Park with new ideas to promote safe and healthy decisions that benefit their classmates,” she said. “It was so exciting to see our students being recognized for their tremendous efforts in such a great organization. Everyone at Wheeling Park High School is proud of them.”

The SADD students were interviewed by WTRF7’s Tessa DiTirro on Nov. 18. The students’ achievements were featured on that evening’s broadcast.
