It’s National School Counseling Week, and Ohio County Schools is thanking counselor Abby Kurz for her dedicated service to the students of Madison and Ritchie elementary schools.
Kurz has been an Ohio County Schools counselor for five years. She has been a counselor at Ritchie for all five of those years, and she began sharing time at Madison three years ago. Kurz said she became a counselor because she always had a passion for helping others.
“Being a school counselor allows me the privilege of helping students grow academically, emotionally, and personally,” she said. “My favorite part about being a counselor is watching children set goals for themselves and put in the hard work to accomplish them. I love having the opportunity to see the world through the students' eyes and watch how they take on the daily challenges before them. The students teach me how to be more understanding, patient and compassionate.”
Kurz said she is fortunate to be a member of the Ritchie and Madison families.
“I can't imagine working anywhere else than Ritchie and Madison. The children and staff are so wonderful and accepting. Everyone works together as a team to help one another. I feel very lucky to be a part of not just one school family, but two.”
