Care Calls

In order to promote faithful attendance and to help students and their families solve problems that both cause poor attendance and result from it, the schools make Care Calls each day to the family of an absent student. Parents are encouraged to make Care Calls to school to inform the school of their child's absence, to arrange to receive homework assignments, and to learn about the school work missed and how it is to be completed at home. Students who attend school regularly learn more, achieve higher grades, and have more fun. Join us in our efforts to promote faithful attendance.

Preschool Programs

The Ohio County, WV Pre-K program has flourished into a thriving, high quality, developmentally appropriate program designed to meet the social, cognitive, linguistic, emotional, cultural and physical needs of 4-year-olds and 3-year-olds as mandated by state and federal law.

WV Pre-Kindergarten sites have been established with the collaborative efforts of Ohio County Schools, identified private preschool agencies, and Northern Panhandle Head Start. Each pre-k is staffed with a certified, highly qualified teacher and assistant who will effectively deliver the state-approved Creative Curriculum. Children may be deemed eligible to receive supplemental services including speech and language, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. Ohio County Schools is committed to providing families with an opportunity to a free, quality pre-k program that will meet and exceed the needs of all children.

Children ages 3-5 may be eligible for services in the developmental preschool classrooms when at least 25% in two or more areas have been determined delayed by an evaluation team or with a medical diagnosis.
