Dr. Miller is Shown with Madison Students

It’s clear how much Madison Elementary School staff members care for their students the moment they begin to speak of them.

Ohio County Schools Superintendent Kimberly Miller visited the Wheeling Island school Wednesday as part of her annual superintendent’s visits. Ohio County Board of Education President Andy Garber and board members Molly Aderholt and Pete Chacalos attended the meeting, and they heard from Madison Principal Andrea Trio, counselor Jessica Watt-Daugherty and reading interventionist Cathy Whorton.

They discussed academics, goals,  counseling and the social and emotional needs of Cougar students. Trio said the school’s teachers are excited about the progress the students are making in all grade levels. She said they are also proud of the relationships they’ve developed with the students, their families and the community.

“If you take a walk through this school, you will see teachers who love kids,” Trio said. “We celebrate that. Kids don’t learn from someone they don’t like or trust. They trust us, and when there’s trust you build tremendous relationships.”

OCS officials also got to hear from Madison students. The students discussed the programs they enjoy and the community service projects in which they’ve been involved. Students also got creative with  Miller and board members. Students used Cricuts to help create “Make ‘n’ Take” gifts, which were personalized coffee mugs.
