A Woodsdale Elementary School teacher has earned a Math4Life grant that will greatly benefit Tiger students!!!

Congratulations to Title 1 Math Interventionist Rebecca Lief who earned a $1,000 Math4Life grant. Woodsdale Principal Ashlea Minch said one of the challenges of math-skill development is empowering parents to reinforce concepts with their children at home. She said the grant will provide a take-home math game kit for every family, which is another tool for parents to help their children to succeed.

Minch commended Lief for work with her students and her success in earning the Math4Life grant.

“Rebecca embodies the term ‘team player,’” Minch said. “She truly goes above and beyond for our students every day, and she is continually trying to think outside the box with math activities. Her applying and winning this grant is no surprise to us. Just another example of her trying to make our students better.”

West Virginia’s math4Life initiative is a statewide effort to improve student mathematics performance. The WVDE seeks to work with counties and schools throughout the state to institute best practices, challenging pedagogy, and student engagement strategies to improve students’ mathematics achievement. The math4life statewide plan is designed around a statewide leadership team that works collaboratively to create a system of mathematical improvement from the state level to the district level to the school level and, ultimately, to the student level.

The counties leverage the West Virginia College-and Career-Readiness Standards for Mathematics to select their instructional materials and to implement math programs, technology supports, and community engagement practices to market their local math4life initiatives.
