Ohio County Schools Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Miller got her first look at the future Wheeling Middle School innovative learning space today.

Miller toured Wheeling Middle today as part of her annual superintendent’s visits. Ohio County Board of Education President Andy Garber, board member Pete Chacalos and OCS Innovation Coordinator JoJo Shay were also on hand for the tour of the school and discussion with students and staff members.

Wheeling Middle School Principal Rich McCardle led school system officials through the facility, and he paid special attention to the school’s former media center. The space is now being renovated and converted into the innovative learning space that will include a Makerspace, a green screen and other exciting upgrades.

“This is so exciting,” Miller said. “This will be so beneficial to Wheeling Middle School students. Ultimately, this will be one of the best learning areas in Ohio County Schools.”

Miller and board members were welcomed to the school with an excellent performance by the Wildcat Steel Band. Students and teachers also did demonstrations on robotics, hydroponics and art. They were also given a copy of the new school newspaper.

Wheeling Middle School students were active in the day’s talks. Wildcat students said they especially enjoy the school’s music programs and athletics. Students said they believe they have great teachers who are very supportive of them.
