Wade and Daugherty
Steenrod Elementary School teachers Mrs. Wade and Mrs. Daugherty are currently doing double duty!  The second grade teachers are enrolled in TWO statewide cohorts focused on two incredibly important topics: phonics and math.

Both cohorts pull between 30-40 teachers in the state of WV, and multiple Ohio County Schools teachers are involved in these opportunities.  The math cohort, known as WV Leaders of Numeracy, is led by two former OCS teachers, Tim Flatley and Joe Mastracci.

Mrs. Wade and Mrs. Daugherty meet virtually with teachers and administrators all over the state once per month to work in grade level groups.  They explore new standards by breaking the standards apart allowing them to be more relatable to teachers.  Cohort members are also exploring learning targets and assessments.  “Each time we meet, we build upon units of study,” states Wade.  “The ability to network has been great,” adds Daugherty.

The phonics cohort is through WVDE and Marshall University.  Teachers involved in this cohort explore different phonics interventions.  Through the usage of small groups, teachers are able to provide more individualized instruction on specific skills.

Thank you Mrs. Wade, Mrs. Daugherty, and all participating OCS teachers!

We love that our teachers are ALWAYS willing to learn and share their knowledge!
