Randy McCardle
“I’ve been a mechanic, a shop foreman, and even a substitute bus driver,” Randy McCardle states.  McCardle recently announced his retirement in May from Ohio County Schools after 47 years of service.

McCardle has been the go-to mechanic for OCS Transportation for nearly five decades.  “I inherited a good fleet,” McCardle explains, reminiscing that the man who used to oversee him when he began was a WWII veteran, “and I’ve done the best I could to maintain it.”  During his time with OCS, McCardle was involved in building the new Operations Center in 1995.  He also served for two years on the WVEA Executive Committee, and he is often sought out from the state of WV for input on school bus specifications and safety.

“A lot of changes have happened over the last 47 years.  The buses are completely different.  We used to have manual transmission buses, and we even used to operate on propane.  Our buses have become so much more dependable over the years.”

When asked what his plans are post retirement, McCardle replies, “Sleep in!” with a laugh.

“Truthfully, I’d do it all over again if I had to.  I met a lot of good people, and I’ve worked with a lot of good people,” he states, “But I am looking forward to spending more time with my wife and grandkids…and tinkering with my 1954 Buick!”

Thank you for your years of service Mr. McCardle! Our county is a better, safer place to live because of your commitment to Ohio County Schools.  We wish you a wonderful, restful, and FUN retirement!
