#InstructionalMomentMonday aims to recognize great instructional moments in Ohio County Schools and provide feedback on how to keep the instruction going at home!

Wheeling Park High School’s marketing teacher, Mr. Turbanic, brought a wealth of knowledge to his position.  Turbanic graduated from then West Liberty State College with a degree in business and marketing in 2003.  He worked in a variety of positions at Cabela’s prior to his teaching career at Wheeling Park.  Turbanic currently teaches entrepreneurship and marketing management.

In his classes, students work with real-world problems and solutions, using cross media and digital marketing, merchandising, branding, and market analysis.  The students in his class get a plethora of information they need to be successful if they plan to enter a business or marketing program after high school.   Turbanic’s courses allow them to have a head start into the terminology and technology needed in the field.

Turbanic’s students were responsible for the branding of Wheeling Park High School’s Overlook store, and recently they created a mobile kiosk to sell WPHS items at various events.  The kiosk has been greatly successful and completely student-led leaving many asking, “Why didn’t you do this sooner?!”

Within the courses offered, students continue to grow ideas for their own future businesses and work with new and innovative technology that enables them to have a first hand experience in what it means to be a leader in the business world.

Check out the mobile kiosk at the upcoming All About Park event scheduled for incoming Freshman on 2/28.

Does your student show interest in business or marketing?  Do they have unique ideas and a knack for creativity?  Parents can encourage entrepreneurship at home by encouraging them to solve problems by looking at available information, teaching financial literacy from an early age, and explaining resilience.  Great ways to get started? Ask your child if they were interested in having a lemonade stand, cutting grass, or babysitting, how they would make their business competitive!  Every successful business starts with an idea!

Thank you Mr. Turbanic for inspiring students to become business leaders every day.  Our county is lucky to have you!
