The Young Family
This week is #publicschoolsweek.  Throughout the week, we will be recognizing members of the community that are #ALLIN for #publicschools.

Meet The Young Family!

Both of these Ohio County Schools educators are staples in their community.  Mrs. Jaime Young, 2023 Ohio County Schools Teacher of the Year and WV Top 10 Teacher of the Year Nominee, has been working for Ohio County Schools for 15 years.  Mr. Ryan Young has been teaching in OCS for 18 years.  Both teachers participate in a variety of extracurricular activities at their schools with Jaime at Woodsdale Elementary School and Ryan at Wheeling Park High School.

Jaime grew up with a public school experience, attending Warwood School followed by Wheeling Park High School.  Ryan attended private school, “I had a great experience in the private schools, but the thing I love about the public school system is the amount of opportunities, both academically and athletically, there is something for everyone.”

Ryan and Jaime have two daughters, 8th grade Leah and 6th grade Maggie who attend Triadelphia Middle School.  “The amount of academic and athletic programs is so impressive across the board in OCS - our daughters have already had a great basketball and volleyball experience at Triadelphia that will prepare them for high school and the teachers at both Woodsdale and Triadelphia have been great throughout the years and are always available for our children,” Ryan states.

“We have always encouraged our children to participate in what is offered to them even if it means working a little harder or taking an extra step. Both are extremely active in sports and have participated in STEM days, science fairs, Math counts and student council over the years. Our oldest is getting ready to attend All About Park this week as she prepares for high school. I’m looking forward to her seeing all that Wheeling Park has to offer and to see if something new sparks an interest for her,” Jaime adds.

The Young Family strongly feels that Ohio County Schools prepares young students for their future: “I also enjoy the diversity in the public school that gives our children the chance to see such a wide variety of people from different backgrounds - we teach them to be respectful to everyone and I think the public school system prepares them for the world they will experience once school is over,” Ryan states.

Their mission as they work to be #allin for #publicschools? “Ryan and I work daily to make Ohio County a better place for not only our children but every other child that is enrolled,” Jaime states, “We believe in Ohio County Schools and the mission it has to provide an education to everyone.”

Thank you to the Young Family for helping us celebrate #publicschoolsweek.  Are you #allin for #publicschools?  Email a family photo to kbutyn@k12.wv.us to have the opportunity to appear in our OCS Stories.
