Collegiate Cheer
In Ohio County, we love to recognize our #alumni.  Today, we are highlighting three of Ohio County and Wheeling Park’s finest athletes; they are still cheering at their respective universities!

Jermaniq attended Madison Elementary School, Triadelphia Middle School and Wheeling Park High School.  She is a graduate of the class of 2023.  Jermaniq cheered all four years at Wheeling Park High School and ran track for two of those years.

“Ohio County Schools prepared me for the world we are in today because throughout the years, all the staff were extremely helpful and supportive.  The work we did definitely prepped me for college,” she states.  Jermaniq also mentions her experience as a cheerleader.  “WPHS Cheer helped prepare me for collegiate cheer because I had the chance to do advanced skills in high school, whether it was tumbling or stunting.  That prepared me for college because there are some teams that didn’t get to do those skills.”

Jermaniq is cheering at West Virginia University and is currently studying exercise physiology in hopes to become an occupational therapist in the future.

Scotlynne attended Corpus Christi, Triadelphia Middle School, and Wheeling Park High School.  A graduate of 2022, Scotlynne spent two years on the dance team, one year on the cheer team, and was the winner of 2022 WPHS Queen of Queens.  She is now in her third year on Marshall University Cheer Team.

“Ohio County Schools has prepared me in multiple ways. I was able to receive a strong education while building relationships with new people every day. It taught me life skills that I apply everyday at college,” Scotlynne states.  She also felt amply prepared for collegiate cheer in thanks to WPHS cheering: “I was pushed to be better everyday.  We constantly worked hard, and pushed each other to be the best we could be. It allowed me to create a strong work ethic and inspired me to take cheer to another level. The support I had from WPHS cheer was like no other. I  learned how to work well with teammates and learn from other people.”
Scotlynne is a nursing major with dreams of becoming a mother/baby nurse.

Alex attended Steenrod Elementary School, Triadelphia Middle School, and Wheeling Park High School.  She is a 2020 graduate, and in her time at WPHS, she participated in cheering, track, and strings.

“Ohio County Schools has prepared me for not only my college education, but also for furthering my athletic career. Ohio County Schools has given me a great foundation socially, educationally, and athletically, which I have been able to grow from since attending WVU,” Alex states.  Wheeling Park Cheer also helped prepare Alex for college: “WPHS cheer instilled in me a very strong work ethic as well as a strong drive to win.  Being a part of this team has also taught me how to be a strong team player. WPHS cheer has given me many athletic skills I have been able to build on since being in college,” Alex adds.

Alex is currently entering her final year of college and her last year of cheer eligibility for West Virginia University. She is studying elementary education with a minor in special education, and hopes to begin her career with elementary students.

Congratulations Jermaniq, Scotlynne, and Alex.  We are so grateful for amazing alumni like you!
