We love to recognize our alumni of both Ohio County Schools and Wheeling Park High School. Today’s #AlumniHighlight features a 2006 graduate who is working hard to serve the city of Wheeling.
Ty Thorngate attended Steenrod Elementary School PTA, Wheeling, WV, Triadelphia Middle School , and Wheeling Park. While a Patriot, Thorngate participated in Radio/TV, graphic design, and business and marketing.
“Wheeling Park High School played a huge role in preparing me for the challenges and opportunities of the real world. Sure, I wasn't always the most angelic student – maybe a little ornery and mischievous at times. But three teachers in particular, Ms. Ihlenfeld (Mrs. Dillon), Ms. Richards, and Mrs. Gronell never let that overshadow my potential. They fostered a space where I could be myself, quirks and all. Their belief in me, even on days when I might have tested their patience, was a constant source of motivation. They pushed me to excel academically while celebrating my individuality, a lesson that's proven invaluable in the real world, where authenticity and resilience go hand in hand. And the best part? Wheeling Park High School has something for everyone. If there's a path that you want to take in life, Wheeling Park has the classes and staff to help guide you.”
Since graduating high school in 2006, Thonrgate continued his education at West Virginia University. “Since graduating Wheeling Park, life has been a thrilling ride! I earned my Marketing degree from WVU in 2010 and explored various marketing roles before becoming the Director of Media at Wheelhouse Creative. The fast-paced environment of marketing always keeps you on your toes, and I truly love it. But that's not all! I'm proud to have been re-elected to a third term on Wheeling City Council. Giving back to this community that shaped me has been incredibly rewarding.
And life for Ty today?
“On a personal note, I'm happily married with a six-year-old son, Leo. Watching his curiosity flourish in kindergarten at Steenrod Elementary has been so much fun. I couldn't be happier to be part of the Ohio County Schools system.”
