#InstructionalMomentMonday aims to recognize great instructional moments in Ohio County Schools and provide feedback on how to keep the instruction going at home!
Mrs. Lara Parsons is in her 26th year of teaching. She is a Triadelphia Middle School Raider that has an amazing connection to her 7th graders. As an English teacher, Parsons knows the importance of helping students better understand informational texts. Today’s instruction focused on text structures.
Understanding the structure of a text, (like problem and solution or cause and effect), can help students identify key points and the author’s purpose behind writing a text. It helps students enhance their critical thinking skills and strategies.
Parsons’ class spent part of the period analyzing a problem and solution text structure. With the help of a graphic organizer and Parsons’ guidance, students worked through the text identifying key information with Parsons often encouraging students to provide additional evidence to support their opinions and answers.
Informational texts are everywhere, and encouraging reading daily can help increase critical thinking skills among students. Thank you to Mrs. Parsons for inspiring your students to further their knowledge and understanding! We are lucky to have you working in Ohio County Schools!
