Subasic and Dietz
Next week is National School Psychologist Week! We want to take a moment to recognize school psychologists for the work they do for our students and our families.  We also want to introduce you to our own school psychologists!

Mr. Subasic has been with Ohio County Schools since 2008.  He’s served as a teacher and administrator, and for the last two years, he’s been our school psychologist intern.  He will graduate from Marshall University this May with an additional degree in School Psychology.

Ms. Dietz is in her first year with Ohio County Schools, but graduated in 2011 from California University of Pennsylvania.  Previously, she’s served as a school psychologist in both OH and PA.

The role of a school psychologist is unique.  In short, can perform psychological assessments, discuss mental health, work with the community and families, offer behavioral interventions, and analyze data.

We sat down with Mr. Subasic and Ms. Dietz to learn more about their role in our school system.  There’s a common misconception that the role of a school psychologist is to test and offer an educational diagnosis. In reality, that’s only a small piece of the role: “Under our licensing, school psychologists have ten domains.  Testing and placement is only 1/10th of what we can do,” states Subasic.  He emphasizes that as school psychologists they can help teams find the help they need to support students.  “With education as a whole, relationships matter.  We can strengthen relationships and offer additional insight to families,” he adds.  “This year’s theme for School Psychologist Week is ‘Seek Discovery,” Dietz states, “We can help families find what they need to help children be well-rounded learners.  We can assist in figuring out the pieces of a puzzle as no one solution meets all.”

Both Subasic and Dietz agree that student growth and collaboration are some of their favorite parts of working as School Psychologists for Ohio County Schools.  They appreciate working with students and families to identify solutions that support students in meeting their educational goals.

Have a great week, Mr. Subasic and Ms. Dietz!  Thank you for supporting our students and staff!
