In Ohio County Schools, we love to recognize #alumni who are accomplishing big things!
We've been focusing heavily on early childhood education and Pre-K and Kindergarten enrollment! It feels like the perfect time to highlight an alum that's made early childhood her career!
Today's #alumnispotlight follows up with Donna Taylor (nee Gardner), Wheeling Park High School class of 2008 graduate.
Taylor was born in Louisville, KY, and moved to WV in 2001. She attended 6th grade at Wheeling Middle School and 7th and 8th grade at Triadelphia Middle School before heading to WPHS.
Taylor stayed busy at WPHS: "I ran the 4x4, 800, and 1600 for the Track team, was an athletic trainer for the boys soccer team,, was member of the National Honor Society, and I participated in the Youth in Government program."
Taylor credits her time at WPHS with helping her evolve into the person she is today: "Wheeling Park prepared me for the life I live by providing me with opportunities to develop and showcase essential skills, such as leadership, communication, teamwork, and problem solving. WPHS also offered opportunities to engage in structured and unstructured time with peers, opportunities to explore my interests and develop a sense of self, and opportunities to fail, learn from failure, and ultimately succeed."
After graduating, Taylor earned a bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University and master’s degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Taylor entered the early childhood workforce as a teacher and quickly worked her way up to leadership.
"I recently accepted a position as the Workforce Development Director of the Kentucky Governor’s Office of Early Childhood where I will be supporting early childhood educators across the state."
Taylor married in 2016 and is a mom of 3 beautiful children together. Currently residing in Louisville, KY, the Taylor family often visits the Ohio Valley to spend time with friends and family.
Congratulations on your new position! We look forward to seeing all you accomplish.
