It will be an exciting summer of learning for students of Ohio County Schools.
Ohio County Schools Student Services Director Raquel McLeod announced Monday that the school system’s summer school programs to be held in June and July have been expanded from previous years. She said there will be summer school programs available for elementary and middle school students, and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEAM) camps will be held for those age groups as well. McLeod said she is excited for the programs, and she believes the students will have great fun while learning. She said this year’s summer programs are exceptionally important due to the time students spent away from the classroom as a result of COVID-19.
“We are expanding summer school programs to meet the needs of students impacted by the pandemic,” she said. “Our programs will include a focus on academics, along with social and emotional learning. It will include mindfulness and engaging STEAM activities. A new component of the program is offering aftercare to students in Pre-K through eighth grade. Breakfast and lunch will be provided, and students staying for aftercare will receive dinner. We are really proud of what we are able to offer.”
McLeod said social distancing will be enforced during classroom instruction. The deadline to enroll to enroll is April 30. Information and enrollment information can be found by following the link provided below.

- The Ohio County Schools Elementary Summer School Program for students in grades Pre-K – 5 will take place from 8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m., Monday-Friday, June 22-July 16 at Ritchie Elementary School. Transportation, breakfast and lunch will be provided. Aftercare will be available on site from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m., and dinner will be provided.
- Elementary School STEAM Camps for students in grades 3-5 will be held 8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Monday-Friday, June 28-July 2 at Bridge Street Middle School. Transportation, breakfast and lunch will be provided. After care is available on site from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m., and dinner will be provided.
- The Ohio County Schools Middle School Summer School Program for students in grades 6-8 will be held 8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m., Monday-Friday at Bridge Street Middle School. Transportation, breakfast and lunch will be provided. Aftercare will be available on site from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m., and dinner will be provided.
- Middle School STEAM Camps for students in grades 6-8 will be held 8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Monday-Friday. Robotics and Maker Challenge Camp will be held June 28 – July, and Audiovisual and Special Topic (To Be Announced) will be held July 12-16.
