Laura Beck has been selected as the 2021-2022 Bridge Street Middle School Teacher of the Year.
Beck was hired as a social studies teacher at Bridge Street in 2013, and she has been at the school since that time. Bridge Street Principal Jessica Broski-Birch said Beck’s methods of teaching make her students want to learn beyond her classroom and into adulthood. She said Beck is a caring educator.
"Mrs. Beck is a teacher who truly inspires,” Broski-Birch said. “The creativity, dedication, care and compassion she brings each day to her lessons and to her students spur curiosity and the lifelong desire to continue to learn and grow."
Beck said she clearly remembers the impact her teachers had on her as a student. She said she continues to strive to make the same impact on the lives of her students at Bridge Street.
“Connections are the key to education,” Beck said. “I remember some of those wonderful teachers that made such a difference and often pass on the lessons that were taught to me. I have amazing students who come from families that I’ve known for years. By teaching at Bridge Street, I hope to give something back to that community that has been so good to me. My ultimate goal is to foster a love of learning and for my students to realize that the decisions that they make impact many people. I want them to choose to be compassionate and productive people.”
