Today, the Ohio County Board of Education held a special meeting and discussed COVID-19 guidelines for the start of the 2021-2022 school year. The board will make its final determination on the guidelines at its next regular meeting to be held at 6 p.m. on Aug. 23 at Madison Elementary School. All of these guidelines are subject to change based on information released by the CDC and data received by the Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department. All decisions are made in the best interest and safety of the students of Ohio County Schools in collaboration with the Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department.
The Office of Ohio County Schools Superintendent Kimberly Miller has recommended the following to the Ohio County Board of Education:
- Parents will decide whether their child wears a mask at school
- All schools will maintain three feet of social distancing when possible
- Unvaccinated staff members will wear masks
- COVID-19 rapid tests will be available for symptomatic students and staff members in schools - The tests will only be given with parental permission and will be administered by a school nurse
