What a fantastic Valentine’s-themed Family Night!
Viking Families enjoyed games, academic fun, and creative crafts, all while spending meaningful time together.

Second grade had an excellent time on their field trip to the Ohio County Library. They learned a lot from Miss Carrie about what the library has to offer, played some games, sang songs, and listened to stories!

We’re kicking off the celebration of Public Schools Week with “Red for Public Ed” day tomorrow, February 20th. Students and staff are encouraged to wear red as we join schools across the state in showing pride in public education.

1) Math Field Day is tomorrow., February 10th. Participants will leave school by 1:00 and will need to be picked up at Wheeling Park High School at 5:30. Awards begin at 6:00 in the Performing Arts Center. We will notify families of Alternates in the morning if they will participate.
2) Our Social Studies Fair will take place on Thursday, February 12th! Please help students remember to bring their projects to school by 9:00 a.m., as judging will begin at that time. Families and friends are invited to view all of the completed projects on Thursday from 4:00–5:00 p.m. in the upstairs Maker Space. We hope to see you there!

Building strong readers, one sound at a time!
Here are some of our scholars using Elkonin boxes and hands-on manipulatives to strengthen their phonics skills. By stretching out words, they are learning to:
• Segment consonant blends (like bl, st, tr)
• Listen for and identify vowel sounds
• Connect sounds to letters
• Build accuracy in reading and spelling
This structured, multisensory approach helps students see, say, and move each sound, deepening their understanding of how words work.
