Madison McCutcheon

Middle Creek Elementary School student Madison McCutcheon is headed to the West Virginia Science and Engineering Fair!!!

McCutcheon recently placed first in the category of Animal Science in the West Liberty University Regional Science Fair in the grades 3-5 division. With her first-place finish, the third grader will travel to the state-level competition on March 6 in Charleston. McCutcheon also placed first at the county level where she earned the coveted Judges Award.

McCutcheon’s project deals with camouflage and animal survival. She said she picked the topic because she loves animals. McCutcheon said she was thrilled to win the regional level of the competition, and she can’t wait to take part in the state-level event.

“I didn’t know I was going to win, and I was really nervous,” she said. “Well, I’m a little scared (about the state competition), but I’m really excited. I’ve never been to Charleston.”

Middle Creek Elementary School Principal Katrina Lewis said everyone at the school is proud of McCutcheon, and they believe she will do well at the state competition.

“I’m super proud of Madison,” Lewis said. “She is kind and considerate, and she always gives it her best.”
