Multiple Counties Come Together for Festival of Strings Event
The #ArtsinOCS are extending a unique opportunity to bring together various local high school orchestral programs.
This Thursday, October 16th, Wheeling Park High School, John Marshall High School, Cameron High School, and Steubenville will bring their orchestral programs for a day at Wheeling Park High School culminating in a large group performance.
The day will feature specific master-class style rehearsals in sectionals as well as esteemed guest conductor, Dr. Rotem Weinberg, visiting from West Virginia University.
Orchestra Curriculum Coordinator, Ms. Laura Grube, elaborates:
“We are really excited to be hosting this event this year. There will be about 60 students attending. They will form two groups, one led by our guest conductor, Dr. Rotem Weinberg from WVU, and the other lead by the combination of the four high school directors. The students will spend all day in rehearsals and sectionals and then perform at 5:30.”
Many of these students have never met, so it’s a true testament to their talent and dedication to their craft.
“I really love the idea of students from different schools coming together and making an ensemble, getting to make music with people they've never met, and having fun together. All the directors have been working together to put on this event, and it's going to be a great day,” adds Grube.
The group concert is scheduled for 10/16 at 5:30 at the JB Chambers Performing Arts Center and is open to the general public.
