Shannon Marsh has been selected as the 2021-2022 Bethlehem Elementary School Teacher of the Year.
Marsh is a first grade teacher at Bethlehem. She has been employed with Ohio County Schools for 17 years. She joined the school system in 2004 as a special education teacher at Triadelphia Middle School. Marsh joined the Bethlehem Elementary School staff in 2009.
Marsh is married to Wheeling Park High School History Department Chair Rick Marsh. Their three sons attend Ohio County Schools, and all of them were her students at Bethlehem.
Bethlehem Principal Stacey Dietz said Marsh is a dedicated teacher who truly cares for her students. She credited Marsh for implementing unique teaching methods.
“Shannon creates opportunities to learn that are non-conventional,” Dietz said. “I walk by her room and hear chants and rhymes, and she invited me to see the analog clocks they created to help in learning to tell time. She’s creative, and she loves to play such an important role in her students’ learning.”
Marsh said her job as a teacher at Bethlehem Elementary School is very rewarding.
“I love being a teacher,” she said. “I get to watch my firsties grow and learn things they didn’t think they ever could. They hang on my every word, and they share so many stories. It truly is something new every day.”
