Melissa Fritter

Melissa Fritter has been selected as the 2021-2022 Steenrod Elementary School Teacher of the Year.

Fritter is the Library Media Specialist, Curriculum Coordinator, Faculty Senate Treasurer and SAT Coordinator at Steenrod. She has been an employee of Ohio County Schools since 1997 and has served at Elm Grove, Madison and Steenrod elementary Schools.

Steenrod Elementary School Principal Michelle Dietrich said Fritter means so much to the school and her students. She said Cardinal teachers respect her, and her students’ love her.

“Her titles don't begin to describe everything she is to the school,” Dietrich said of Fritter. “She is the first person teachers go to for advice. She is a calm and steady presence in the school and very aware of policies and procedures. In addition to the role she serves as a teacher-leader to the adults in the building, she is loved by her students. They can count on Mrs. Fritter to challenge their thinking with STEAM activities as well as library studies.”

Fritter said her time at Steenrod has been quite rewarding to her. She said she is proud to be a part of the school’s staff, and she still loves working with her students every day.

“It is such an honor to be chosen as Steenrod's Teacher of the Year by my colleagues during this unique school year,” Fritter said. “I have enjoyed working with Steenrod students the last 24 years engaging their critical thinking and problem-solving skills with STEAM activities and fostering a love of literature through reading classic children's stories aloud and providing a wide variety of books for students to choose to read independently. I am very proud to be a member of the Steenrod Cardinal family.”
