Madison Elementary School students are shown in Wheeling Park's Innovative Learning Center

It was an exciting day for Madison Elementary School students taking part in the Beyond Education program as they saw the amazing opportunities and exceptional facilities that will be available to them when they become students at Wheeling Park High School.

Wheeling Park Principal Meredith Dailer, Assistant Principal Adrienne Richards and Patriot students led Madison students on a tour of Park’s new Innovative Learning Center (ILC) and the school’s greenhouse before ending their visit with fun activities in Gym C.

The expansive new ILC opened on Jan. 23. The state-of-the-art facility features collaborative spaces that includes a makerspace and flexible seating with the goal of blending academic and 21st century skills in an environment that promotes creativity, collaboration and communication. Ohio  County Schools Innovation Coach Josh Yost took Madison students through all of the areas of the ILC, and Cougar students had the opportunity to try out many new things.

Madison students got to see Park’s greenhouse, which has been a source of pride at the school for years. The greenhouse is directed by CTE teacher Don Headley and run by Patriot students. The greenhouse is filled with beautiful plants each spring when it also becomes a profitable business.

Park’s Beyond Education organization seeks out students with strong leadership abilities, with a goal of leading them on a path to college, an education degree and a future career as a teacher.
