Promise Scholarship

The West Virginia PROMISE Scholarship provides a significant financial incentive for students to excel academically and perform well on the SAT. Eligible students may receive up to $5,500 per year to attend an approved in-state college or university, with the scholarship renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study. This represents a potential value of $22,000 toward a student's college education. By maintaining strong grades and achieving qualifying SAT scores, Wheeling Park High School students can greatly reduce the cost of postsecondary education while keeping future opportunities open within the state of West Virginia.

Big Future

The College Board's BigFuture program connects students with valuable college and scholarship opportunities based on their academic achievements and interests. Through participation in the SAT and completion of career and college planning activities, students may become eligible for monthly BigFuture Scholarships. These scholarships range from $500 to $40,000, with numerous awards distributed throughout the year. In addition to scholarship opportunities, BigFuture helps students explore colleges, compare career pathways, and create personalized plans for life after high school. By engaging with BigFuture early and consistently, Wheeling Park High School students can expand their postsecondary options while potentially earning financial support for their future education.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a required step for students and families seeking financial assistance for postsecondary education, including grants, scholarships, work-study opportunities, and federal student loans. Completion of the FAFSA is essential for accessing both federal and many state-based aid programs, as well as institutional financial support offered by colleges and universities.

Each year, the FAFSA opens on October 1, and students are encouraged to complete it as early as possible to maximize eligibility for available funds, as many programs operate on a first-come, first-served basis. While specific state and institutional deadlines may vary, most priority deadlines fall between early winter and spring of the student’s senior year. At Wheeling Park High School, students and families are provided guidance and support throughout the FAFSA completion process to ensure all required materials are submitted accurately and on time.
